Adventure time! Empty Adventure time!

Post  eraticus Fri Nov 02, 2012 6:15 pm

Ok I think it's time we really built the custom adventure map we've always wanted to. Bukkit is nearly ready to be updated, they have a beta build for 1.4.2 so it should only be a short while before we can go back to our bukkit mods. The main thing I want to have is Voxelsniper multiverse and our usual utility mods running. Who would be willing to work on a project? I'm thinking we can just build something MMO style with areas with their own puzzles/quests etc and just keep building in it.

Ok I'm really glad to see interest in this. Xack has already come up with a general storyline to start things off. I'll let him post it up here. If you'd like to use this thread or even another one to hash out ideas feel free. If you'd like to keep things hidden I can create a new private forum so as not to spoil the fun for any of our players after the map is complete. We can hop in mumble and brainstorm as well.

The main things I think we need to hash out first are

Storyline

Objectives/scope (how big do we go and can we make it modular)

Mods used/required (do we make it with the intent to run on our server only using the mods we choose or to distribute possibly vanilla)

???

Strange, lost my post there. Yeah making it so people wanting to partake of the adventure can't spoil it for themselves with curiosity could help. As long as people are around yet when I get off work I want in on some brainstorming

This guy has great examples of what can be done using mcedit filters to make awesome vanilla (no mod installation required) adventure maps. I want to play thru a couple of them. If anyone is interested in doing a couple co-op let me know and we'll hook them up.

I got some stuff that you can use, mainly a map with really interesting terrain that I made in world painter. Kinda bite off more than I could chew with a project that I was working on. Anyways I kinda gave up on it due to the scope being to big for me to handle alone. Since EoN alpha is dead and both chivalry and Natural selection 2 are unbalanced I wouldn't mind playing minecraft again till beta.

Herobrine's Mansion was awesome!

I played through it earlier today and enjoyed it a lot.

I would love to play through Herobrine's Mansion with someone if someone is able to host it. the amount of things that can be done pure vanilla now using command blocks is awesome.

as for our adventure map, im up for helping with the build. just let me know when im needed.

There's a ton that can be done with this mod basically making a total conversion if you want. Watch the related videos for some of the tools available. The only downside I see is it's compatible with 1.4 but only has content for 1.3.2 I think.

It does look pretty great. Is that what you hope on using Era or were you thinking of Vanilla for now? Since as you pointed out it hasn't caught up yet?

We could do a small vanilla map to get a feel for it and maybe release it. Then when everything gets caught up if we want to try that one out we can.

I'm game for whatever. Just know with my schedule I will be at work from 1:00pm to 9:30 pm CST Sat-Wed. I almost alway hop on a bit in the morning before work and usually after as well. Though for the most part Thurs and Fri I have the whole day.

ok I just finished herobrines mansion by hypixel. it's awesome! it's a perfect example of what can be done with vanilla and a few mcedit filters. I highly recommend you try it out if you havent. He also did a really cool star wars one.
