Hey guys. Ive heard about this game a couple times now. The best way I can describe it is a 2D Minecraft-inspired adventure. It has a lot of similarities with Minecraft such as digging, exploring caves, and building, but it also does a lot of new things that Minecraft hasnt gotten to yet.

The game also includes NPCs (for buying/selling), different weapon types, accessories that allow you to be more powerful, in game bosses, character customization, toggle-able pvp with teams (yes, multiplayer servers!), different types of enemies including slimes, worms, skele, zombies, ect.

The game is written in C#, rather than Java, and is probably going to be much easier for computers to run (just a guess, 2D normally is).

They havent released the game, or come up with a price yet, but theyve said they plan to keep it affordable. I think this would be another great game that would allow us to play and build together. Im not sure if there are going to be limits on server size.. but I think it would be fun to play. Plans are to get it released in a couple months, so keep your eyes open if youd care to play!

Lemme know what you guys think, and if youd be willing to join me when the game comes out. ;D Also! Check out their Youtube channel listed above. Theyve got lots of short videos up where they talk about the game. Its far more in-depth than their website is atm.

Ive been watching the "Let's Plays" for this game and it looks pretty interesting and seems to have allot of depth to it. I don't think it will come anywhere close to minecraft in the building aspect but it seems to focus more on adventuring and character development. I'
ll be watching this game. I just wish it was 3d but if the gameplay is good who cares about the graphics.

Yeah, its definitely more focused on the exploring aspect.

I think they are running with a lot great ideas right now, so with any luck, I think itd end up being a fun game to play around with friends in. Almost like a multiplayer version of your old NES games.

Lower stylized graphics dont bother me. The randomized worlds should make it fun to play again. And Im guessing itll be a fraction of the cost of any normal console game atm, so its a nice cheap way to have some good fun.

I watched all the Let's Play videos by PaperBatVG. I'll definitely be playing this game when it comes out.

Personally I wont buy anymore games via a download service. In the unlikely event they decide they dont want you to play your game anymore all they have to do is delete you and it's game over for you the user. Giving anyone that kind of control, even if it will "never happen" is too much control for me.

Back to the game, it looks really cool!

You most get ripped off then if your not taking advantage of steam sales.

Must agree with ya painless, I will never allow anyone to have the power to decide that I can't play any of the games I have purchased!

Guess Ive never had a problem with Steam itself. Ive saved quite a bit of money through them, and I can play my games on whatever PC I want. I dont hack or anything, so they have no reason to suddenly stop allowing me to access my games.

Back to the game though yeah, my first thought are that the controls could be improved a little bit, but coming from Minecraft, I guess that you immediately expect it to act just like Minecraft.

For instance, to change tools you have to stop swinging whatever youre using, and then change. (Makes sense, but its not intuitive compared to Minecraft. XD)

Overall though, I played it for a few hours and its pretty fun.

It requires a separate host, like Minecraft. Multiplayer is set up by running an instance of Terraria and setting it as the server. Then others can connect to the server via ip and port.

So, I guess using a hosting service would require the host to run an instance of Terraria. At least it should be fairly straightforward as there are no mods or anything to manage.

I doubt that there will ever be any legitimate mods, because your character is useable across servers and single player maps, so it would be unfair to have mods on some servers and not on others.

You can't really compare it to minecraft. It just has a few minecraft-like elements, but it's mostly zelda. You level up by gaining better items and power-ups instead of levels.

That's a good comparison, ope. The way the bosses work reminds me of Zelda, too.

Yeah. Some people have been calling it a Minecraft/Mario mix but I think its far more like Castlevania or Zelda than Mario.
