1.0 is finally out!

Post  eraticus on Fri Nov 18, 2011 6:39 pm

So 1.0 is finally out. Should we update the server and play vanilla for a bit? Wait for the mods to catch up and then update all at once? If we update should we merge current map with creative?
Just want to get your 2 cents here so post away.

I say wait for everything to be updated then update the map.

I also like the idea of reloading all the chunks past 2000 blocks or whatever. That way we get snow and maybe a new stronghold or two with The End portals.

I'm game for some vanilla. A new, fresh world seems to be the one that brings the most people online.

The magic number may actually be about 1400; the farthest developed area I can find in any direction is about 1300 blocks west of spawn. Even 1000 would be enough to save my beach resort in the east.

Is there a way to get onto the server or is it still "outdated"?

you'd have to downgrade. it's currently not upgraded. as soon as bukkit gets updated I'll go ahead and upgrade.

Looks like bukkit might be a couple days out now. They didn't finish the upgrade at minecon and think it will be a couple days Sad

we're going to go ahead and run a vanilla map as soon as we get the old stuff backed up and get 1.0 installed. should be up within the next hour or so. This way we can at least play for a bit. We'll figure out what to do with the old maps when the mods are current.

Please take a moment to share your thoughts on how you would like to handle the transition to 1.0. would you like to keep the map we just started as the main world? try to respawn the outer borders of our 1.8 map? merge it with creative? run both maps as survival maps? any other ideas appreciated. also are there any mods you would like to see or not? im for the sheep regrowing wool one for sure. we may have to change our minecart situation around.

I would like to see the map we just started merged with the 1.8 map and respawn everything outside of that. whatever we decide, as long as can keep my obsidian tower (1.8 map) I'm happy.

The sheep regrowing wool mod sounds good to me.

is there any way to turn off the one-click to destroy in creative? That is the only thing that drives me crazy about it. I can barely interact with anything without risking devastation. It spoils the whole point of keeping stuff around for me.

slightly related - is there some way to get a hold of the worlds so that I/we could extract the stuff we made with world edit or something? I have never messed with editing, but it would be nice to "keep" some of my creations.

My opinion on what to do: I am not a big fan of the current temp seed, it is pretty rough and full of holes/chasms. Others may like that, but I prefer smoother terrain. Hilly/mountains is fine, I just don't like where it looks like it was ripped apart. I think that also messes with the villages too.

I'm for keeping the old map myself, I liked the set up I/we had. But I'll go along with it if you all want to just restart.

I'm so slow with my builds that I'm used to getting interrupted by patches. So no worries here.

while I enjoy the 1.8 map and have some unfinished stuff on it yet. If the majority did want to start fresh, I say we also scrap the mundane looking temp map we are using currently.

I think we are waiting on bukkit to recommend a 1.0 build. I would love to have the old creative map back and I have tons of work to do on several of the multiverse maps.

Besides our hodge-podge spawn town which you can see on any random server, the land scape is just kind of meh... No incentive to build anything.

Well I'm back... waiting on status, lol I think a new map would be a fresh idea, I am not a ... huge fan of the current setup, just in comparison to the stuff we have done before this is nothing.

I can't wait to play either way, I'll prob set up something temporary build wise for now to play around with the new features! ^^

I think we need a grand gateway for a spawn point to link all our projects. That way we could get to our various projects and worlds easily. The set up prait had with the water spawn was good but the portal room was confusing and hard to navigate. We need something to tie everything together. It also needs to be able to handle future expansion. I'm also interested in survival since there are new things to do. I wouldn't be involved in any epic builds in survival but making machines and farms interests me. Perhaps we could showcase a few of our more organic builds their as well. The Dragon and Cobra seem like they need a home. An organic build area were we can do whatever and not have to worry about ruining a map with randomness would be nice. They really don't belong in the redstone lab map anyways

I'm looking at some mods that I think would make things interesting for us. The slight downside is some of the ones I'd like to use require a client side mod. If we created a detailed instruction and posted it here on the boards with video, would you be willing to install client mod? It would be really simple, basically we'd upload a copy of one of our bin files and you'd just rename your current bin file and copy ours in. then if you didn't want to play with it you'd just rename the 2 files. Most of the mods I'm looking at if you didn't want to install the mod it wouldn't affect you but you wouldn't be able to use things made using these mods, or maybe even see them properly.

Spout looks pretty cool and doesn't seem that hard to install.

After thinking about it I think starting a fresh 1.0 survival map would be pretty cool! I'm not sure how anyone else feels but if we were able to copy and paste builds from the 1,8 map I think everyone would be on board. cyclops

While I really want to finish my 1.8 castle, its also not necessary. I would be on board with a fresh map.
