1.8 release options

Post  eraticus on Sun Sep 11, 2011 10:15 pm

Having played with this I think we're all excited to get started. What do you guys think about saving all of our current stuff and just starting a vanilla map for 1.8 and once all of our plugins are up to date add them back in? That way we'll have a fresh start with everyone playing in 1.8 and then get back to our old builds in a couple days.

Sounds good, also the idea of making the main world Creative sounds awesome to me, or at least having 1 world creative.

I was wondering if it would be possible to make the 1.8 world the "main" world so that its linked to the Nether and make our old world a secondary world like sphereworld?

we could make 1.8 main. old world creative might work but I think we should add a border to it so if we have 20 people flying around it wont generate new chunks and lag the server. I have thought about a flatmap creative world for testing etc.

I agree with every one of these ideas.

Let's just not jump the gun on 1.8 just yet. The terrain gen appears like it's still get lots of tweaks. In addition, what if the villages that 1.8 bring aren't inhabitable by the 1.9 NPCs? Just something to think about.

I don't know if that really matters. I would imagine that from here on out, we'd be doing most of our big build projects on a creative map and using the survival map mostly for adventuring. So the prospect of losing that map isn't quite as terrifying as losing our current map would be. Certainly, if a patch is released in the first few days that significantly tweaks terrain gen, I don't think anyone would object to scrapping the 1.8 map and starting over with 1.8.?. By the time 1.9 rolls around, things might be a tad trickier.

Yeah we won't be losing any of our current stuff. Except for sphereworld. But I will keep a back up copy of that one just in case we decide to go back to it at some point. I can't take all the credit for the border idea and the idea of using 1.8 as our main world etc. Most of that came from talking about stuff last night playing on praits server. I just wanted to highlight those ideas and typing on my phone is a PITA.

Terrain has already been tweeked per jeb. THey 1.2 the number of caves and also increased strongholds to 3 per world so we may get a chance to explore a complete one Very Happy
